I started catering for my son's primary school back in 2007, as I was totally unimpressed with the meals they were getting, and coming from a catering background, I was pretty sure I could do a better job!!
That was at Rowde Primary School, and since then the company has evolved and grown beyond anything I planned or imagined. It has been a natural progression, with local schools hearing of the success of Rowde and approaching me to see if I could perhaps help them with their lunches.
In 2009 Lataca Ltd was formed, and we now serve 11 primary schools across Wiltshire from Aldbourne near Marlborough to Great Cheverell near Devizes. We source local suppliers where possible; Lower Field Farm in Coate for our meat and AGL Fruit and Veg, based in Rowde, for our veg and salad. All of our fish is MSC passed and our dry good supplier is a reputable national company.
Our menus meet and often exceed the government guidelines set out and we have also been awarded the Wiltshire Council 'eat out eat well' gold award, which is a government scheme to encourage healthy eating choices.
All of my staff are trained regularly to meet the guidelines set out by the local authority, and also have the opportunity to take NVQ based courses whilst they work. This encourages self-improvement and also rewards the staff for all the hard work they do.
